Lisa Snowdon has revealed that she had an abortion while in a ‘terribly poisonous’ relationship.
In her new memoir, Just Getting Started, the former Capital Breakfast host, 51, describes her experience.
She speaks honestly about her interactions with women at one point, and heartbreakingly recounts having a miscarriage at another.
Lisa talked up about her decision to have an abortion on Lorraine Kelly’s ITV show, claiming she’stands by’ it.
Lorraine had inquired about Lisa’s decision to have an abortion, which she discusses in her upcoming book.
‘That’s a decision that nobody ever does lightly, but you were in a terribly toxic relationship, and understandably didn’t want to bring another life into that,’ Lorraine began.
Lisa replied: ‘That’s exactly right.
‘I just knew in my heart that wasn’t the right relationship, environment to bring a child into that.
‘And I did make that decision and I think that sometimes, I look back and I think, “Oh my gosh, what if?”
‘But I stand by that decision, because I didn’t want to be attached to that person for the rest of my life and have to explain to the baby why I wasn’t with the father.’
Lorraine continued: ‘Because it was bad, it was really bad, terrible, I had no idea that you went through that.’
Lisa said that it ‘felt like the perfect moment’ to come out about her decision now, all these years later.
This comes after Lisa describes the life-changing injuries she suffered at the hands of a former partner while pregnant at the age of 19.
‘I ran to the toilet, full of terror,’ she writes in her book. I had no idea what to do. We’d only recently gone live, and I knew I had to keep working.
‘I dug deep and tried to park the dread I felt in the pit of my stomach, praying that my baby would be OK.
‘To say I was devastated was an understatement; I was heartbroken, inconsolable.’
In an extract seen by The Sun, the radio personality also noted: ‘I am convinced the reason for my miscarriage was yes, partly due to the egg quality, but also because my partner had attacked me in the street the night before, shaking me violently and throwing me up against some metal shop-front shutters.’
The former I’m A Celebrity contestant revealed that she is still in daily agony as a result of her injuries, but she hopes that sharing her story may assist others who are going through something similar.
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV1.
