Loki fans have been waiting for this moment for a long time, as season 2 of the Disney Plus smash premieres tomorrow, Friday, October 6th.
And it’s been a long time coming, given that the show’s second season was revealed two years ago – on the same day in 2021 that the final episode, For All Time, Always, was published.
The last time we saw Tom Hiddleston’s legendary Marvel villain, Loki, he was no longer identified by Morbius (Owen Wilson) or B-15 (Wunmi Mosaku) and was stuck in an alternate universe.
We can’t wait to see what happens next, but when will the series be available on Netflix, and how many episodes can we expect?
Here’s what you should know…
What time does Loki season 2 drop on Disney Plus?
The first episode of Loki Season 2 will be available on Disney Plus at 2 a.m. UK time on Friday.
The series will be available on the service in the United States on Thursday, October 5, but owing to the time difference, we won’t be able to watch it until the early hours of Friday morning.
If you don’t already have Disney Plus and want to watch the series, you may do so for £7.99 per month.
Alternatively a year’s subscription costs £79.90 – effectively giving you 12 months for the price of 10.
How many episodes are there in Loki season 2?
Loki Season 2 consists of six episodes.
The running lengths of these vary, but sources estimate that the first four parts are roughly 40-45 minutes long, with the latter two still to be verified.
Expect a weekend binge-watch of all six, as Disney Plus will only release one episode each week for the next six weeks.
The season finale will be released on November 9th.
What happens in Loki season 2?
According to Marvel: ‘Loki Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of the shocking season finale when Loki finds himself in a battle for the soul of the Time Variance Authority.
‘Along with Mobius, Hunter B-15, and a team of new and returning characters, Loki navigates an ever-expanding and increasingly dangerous Multiverse in search of Sylvie, Judge Renslayer, Miss Minutes, and the truth of what it means to possess free will and glorious purpose.
Hiddleston and Wilson told fans at Disney’s recent D23 event that things would not get any easier for him.
‘Loki is back in the Time Variance Authority and Mobius doesn’t seem to know who he is,’ Hiddleston said.
Wilson then added: ‘It’s a little bit like that Talking Heads song… And in season 2 we’re going to answer, “How did I get here?”‘
Who is in the cast of Loki season 2?
In addition to Hiddleston, the cast features Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, Kate Dickie, Liz Carr, Ke Huy Quan, and Owen Wilson, who reprises his role as Mobius.
Jonathan Majors plays Victor Timely, a version of He Who Remains, a mystery individual revealed at the end of season one as the man who had been secretly leading the Time Variance Authority.
After the New York Police Department stated in March that the actor had been detained after being accused of hitting a lady in a domestic argument, which he denied, there was significant speculation regarding his role in the series.
At the time, his representative stated that he had “done nothing wrong” and that they were looking forward to “clearing his name.” He was no longer in police custody, it was learned.
When asked if the programme will be changed as a result of the actor’s arrest, executive producer Kevin Wright responded:
While Loki season two wrapped in 2022, Wright was questioned if Majors’ incarceration in March 2023 resulted in any modifications to the episodes.
‘No. This is maybe — not maybe — this is the first Marvel series to never have any additional photography,’ he told Variety.
‘The story that is on screen is the story we set out to make. We went out there with a very specific idea of what we wanted this to be, and we found a way to tell it in that production period. It’s very much what’s on screen on Disney Plus.’
The interviewer pressed Wright on the matter further, asking if there was ever any conversation about making adjustments, given that other Marvel projects had done extra photography in the past.
‘No. And that mainly came from – I know as much as you do at the moment. It felt hasty to do anything without knowing how all of this plays out,’ he stated in response.
