Loose Women star Janet Street-Porter couldn’t help but criticise Charlene White for crying on Monday night’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, accusing her of ‘exhibiting weakness’.
Fellow panellist Charlene is currently taking part in the ITV series and before angering Boy George with her undercooked mushrooms, she became upset over being away from her young children.
Waking up in the main camp, she said in the Bush Telegraph: ‘I would say that my first night’s sleep in the jungle wasn’t great.
‘I’m not used to sleeping outdoors, it’s a new environment. I think I was over-emotional, I was missing the kids, it just got released through tears really and I just couldn’t stop crying.’
Janet was quick to share her thoughts on the scenes during Tuesday’s Loose Women.
‘I think Charlene’s children can see her on television, they can watch her,’ she remarked. ‘It’s not like she’s gone somewhere, she’s a long way away from them.
‘I understand why she cried, but to exhibit weakness at this stage of the game… you mustn’t exhibit too much weakness otherwise…’
Brenda Edwards was quick to leap to Charlene’s defence, adding that her friend was likely overwhelmed after completing The Ledge trial, which saw her suspended 334ft in the sky.
‘All of that and then a silent period… that’s when it just comes out,’ she said.
One Loose Women viewer wasn’t best pleased by Janet’s comments, with one writing: ‘Why are you “exhibiting weakness” if you cry? Jesus wept! So far Janet has had a go at a bloke for being scared and a woman for crying. Great mental health ambassadors.’
Another said: ‘Aww I understand homesickness, I get it horribly.’
Charlene is currently away from her two young children, Alfie, born in 2017, and Florence, born in 2019.
She shares her kids with her partner Andy, a TV producer.
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
