Lorraine Kelly has been forced to skip her own TV show today due to a virus.
Kate Garraway made the revelation on Good Morning Britain, and she also disclosed that another TV presenter had ‘came to the rescue’ to take the broadcaster’s position at the last minute.
Kate noted at roughly 20:08 that normally at this point in the broadcast, she and her co-host Ed Balls would switch to Lorraine to find out what will be featured on her show starting at 9am on ITV.
‘In almost a first in her 30-year-plus history on breakfast TV, she’s actually gone home. She’s not well,’ Kate said.
Lorraine did come into the ITV studio, but she left because she was too sick to do her show, according to Ed.
‘She’s got a bug,’ Kate continued. ‘We’re wishing you very well Lorraine. I hope you’re getting better.’
Kate stated that Ranvir Singh would be replacing Lorraine beginning at 9 a.m., while Ed signalled that he was offering support through the TV screen.
‘Ranvir is to the rescue though, she’s on her way in to get herself ready for the show, so she’ll be here,’ she said.
Kate remarked how fortunate it was that Ranvir was able to step into Lorraine’s shoes at what looks to be less than an hour’s notice, getting out of bed to assist.
Ranvir said just before the start of Lorraine that she received a call at 7.18am while in bed and made it to the train by 7.30, admitting that she was ‘proud’ of herself for being so quick.
Lorraine expressed her disappointment at not being able to interview singing superstar Adam Lambert on Wednesday’s show in a tweet.
‘When you have to be sent home from work early in the morning because you are suddenly attacked by a hideous bug and were looking forward to interviewing @adamlambert,’ she wrote.
‘THAT! Beyond disappointed but imagine if I had infected him !!!!!!’
Several people wished Lorraine better, including singer Aled Jones, who wrote: ‘Get well soon lovely x.’
A fan of Adam’s wrote: ‘Oh no! 😢 That IS disappointment indeed. He is amazing!!! But thank you for protecting @adamlambert 🙏 and hope you feel better soon.’
Another stated their want for Lorraine to meet Adam, who regularly performs with Queen, at a later date.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV. Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
