Lorraine Kelly made a sly dig at Matt Hancock’s affair that resulted in him quitting as health secretary, shading him by saying he’s ‘not very good with hidden cameras’.
Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Mr Hancock will be joining I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2022 as a latecomer, with it believed that he’ll enter the jungle alongside fellow contestant Seann Walsh.
The politician has since been suspended from the Conservative Party, while defending his stint on the ITV series by stressing that he ‘hasn’t lost his marbles’.
On Wednesday’s Lorraine, the talk show host was joined by former I’m A Celebrity contestant Christine Hamilton and Heat magazine’s editor-in-chief Lucie Cave, as they discussed how they expect Mr Hancock’s time in the camp will go down with members of the public and the other stars in the cast.
After Ms Hamilton expressed how ‘appalling’ she finds Mr Hancock’s signing, Ms Cave predicted that there are going to be ‘clashes’ between the campmates.
‘I can imagine big clashes with people like Boy George, I can’t really see him getting on with Chris Moyles that well. But you know what, people have got such a low opinion of him, I think that it can only actually go up, because he might actually bond with some of them, you might see a different side of him,’ she speculated.
‘You never know what you’re going to see when you see people in the jungle because you’re completely exposed. He obviously thinks he’s got something to gain by being there.’
However, Ms Kelly remarked that Mr Hancock does have previous experience with hidden cameras… which didn’t go down at all well.
‘He has got previous… when you talk about cameras exposing him, has he not? Yes, he’s not very good with hidden cameras, is he?’ she said in a wise-cracking dig.
In June 2021, when Mr Hancock was health secretary and social distancing rules were still in place in an effort to reduce the spread of Covid-19 across the UK, the politician was caught kissing his aide Gina Coladangelo in CCTV footage.
Both of them were married at the time, with their respective relationships coming to an end shortly after their affair came to light.
Mr Hancock, who resigned as health secretary, later claimed that he lost his job because he fell in ‘love’.
‘That’s something that was completely outside of my control,’ he said on the Diary of a CEO podcast hosted by Dragons’ Den star Steven Bartlett.
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
