Love Is Blind may see singles seeking to find a lasting connection, but the intentions of one contestant this season have been questioned by the woman who ultimately rejected him.
With the latest batch of episodes of the reality dating series released last week, one stand-out moment came from Andrew Liu, who built a bond with Nancy Rodriguez before she later turned down his proposal so she could pursue things with someone else.
However, when speaking to producers about the apparent heartbreak, Liu put eye drops in and quickly became tearful as he said being rejected ‘didn’t feel good’ and that he ‘never thought I could care for someone that would bring me to tears’.
His emotions were questioned by fans of the show, who flocked to social media to question whether his emotions were genuine, and now it seems Nancy has agreed with them.
Getting to know Andrew in the pods before meeting in person was enough to worry Nancy, who says he put off ‘a lot of deception’ and that his persona whilst getting to know him was very ‘cool, calm and collected’.
‘So, I called it out, you know,’ Nancy told Newsweek.
‘I must have superpowers in the pod to be able to tell that something was off.
‘When I saw that scene, it just really confirmed and validated that I made the right choice to say no to someone who wasn’t in this experiment and this experience for the real reasons.’
There were plenty of opinions on social media too, with many people joking about the fact that Andrew had clearly tried to get some sympathy, but that producers knew including the scene of him putting the drops in was way too good to cut.
Andrew, a wildlife photographer, hasn’t done much to fan the flames by joking about it all himself.
For those yet to watch, Andrew asked producers if the cameras were rolling before squirting the drops into his eye and saying ‘it’s just too much. Just a little bit’.
‘It didn’t feel good, to be completely honest. I guess I feel satisfied that I went for it. It’s just… It hurts,’ he added.
Last week he shared the clip of him putting the drops in on Instagram, captioning the story with ‘could have at least edited out the pimple, guys’ and yesterday responding to a fan who defended the idea that maybe his eyes were just dry by writing ‘who’s to say? Truly’.
While Netflix has released the seven episodes of this season, another four are still on their way, due out early next month.
