After being left on his own at tonight’s recoupling ceremony, Winter Love Island star David Salako has been the first islander to be dumped from the 2023 series.
Following David’s appearance on the show, it was evident from the start that he was eager to connect with Tanya Mahenga, with whom he went on a date.
While there was certainly an attraction between them, Tanya chose to continue with her initial couple with Shaq Muhammad, which meant that David was sent home after Lana Jenkins chose Will Young as the final pair.
After his exit, the 24-year-old revealed that he thought he had a chance to stay because he assumed Tanya would choose between him and Shaq.
‘Me and Tanya had a nice relationship. We just found it easy to talk to each other. But maybe that’s all it was between us, simply excellent chat,’ the money adviser conceded.
‘I didn’t know who Tanya was going to pick,’ he says of the recoupling ceremony. Shaq and I divided the bill 50/50. I assumed the four things she stated during the re-coupling were about me until she chose Shaq. That’s amazing,’ I thought.
Several viewers expressed sympathy for David, who was dumped on day five of the show after joining as a latecomer.
‘Oh I feel so sorry for David,’ one user said, adding, ‘Poor David – I liked him.’
Others, however, chastised him for being ‘foolish’ in placing all of his eggs in one basket so early on, especially because Tanya was still linked to Shaq at the time.
While David’s departure means there is one less person in the villa, it won’t be for long.
Two more bombshells are poised to join the show on Sunday night, and there’s more to them than meets the eye.
Love Island returns tomorrow at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
