Love Island finalist Tasha Ghouri’s dad was in contact with ITV welfare team ‘a lot’ amid fans’ ‘bullying’ claims

Love Island star Tasha Ghouri’s dad has shared a video message to fans ahead of the final, revealing that he has spoken to ITV’s welfare team ‘quite a lot’ regarding his daughter’s wellbeing.

Tonight, one of the four remaining couples will be crowned the winner of the 2022 series, with the last islanders in the running being Tasha and Andrew Le Page; Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and Davide Sanclimenti; Indiyah Polack and Dami Hope; and Gemma Owen and Luca Bish.

With just hours to go until the grand finale is underway, with Laura Whitmore hosting live from the villa, Tasha’s dad Tarek Ghouri posted a video thanking fans for support, while also revealing the concern he felt for his daughter when she was ‘going through a lot of the bad stuff’.

This year’s series has been hit with thousands of complaints over ‘misogynistic behaviour’, while Tasha was left visibly upset after the game of Snog, Marry, Pie, when she felt hurt by the reasons Luca and Dami gave for pieing her in the face.

While speaking to Johnny Seifert on the Secure The Insecure podcast, Love Island stars Billy Brown and Josh Samuel Le Grove expressed their opinion that producers ‘sat back’, while viewers accused Luca and Dami of ‘bullying’ Tasha’.

With ITV having published its extended duty of care protocols ahead of the 2022 season, Tarek said in his video that he wanted to thank ‘anybody that has sent us messages of support for Tasha throughout, particularly when she was going through a lot of the bad stuff that was happening in there’.

‘There were times when I wanted to get on the plane and drag her out, but I was comforted by A, your messages of support, but B, obviously there is a lot that goes on in the background that you don’t see, but I was in contact with ITV’s welfare team quite a lot, as you can imagine.’

Tarek, who headed into the villa in Sunday’s episode to reunite with Tasha and meet Andrew for the first time, explained that as the footage from the show airs a couple of days after it happens, he was ‘always a little step behind’.

‘It wasn’t easy watching that, we’re past that now, and Tasha is being the real Tasha and is being able to be the real Tasha,’ he added.

‘So we’re delighted that she’s got this far, and it’s with your help and your support and your lovely messages that helped us get through that.’

Tarek said that as someone who doesn’t use social media often, he’s learnt how important it is to ‘look beyond the words’ and for people to think about what they’re writing.

‘If you’re posting hate and death threats and all that horrible stuff, just do it somewhere else, or just don’t do it actually. This is called Love Island, it’s to celebrate love and relationships,’ he stated.

He also emphasised the ‘horrific stories’ that other relatives of the Love Island contestants had to share when they all met in Spain.

To conclude his video, Tarek called for fans to vote for Tasha and Andrew to win the series, pledging to buy Andrew a T-Shirt that says ‘Or whatever’ on the front of it if they win, in reference to Andrew’s now-famous phrase about what he got up to with Coco Lodge under the sheets.

In ITV’s extended duty of care protocols, the broadcaster said that ‘extensive welfare measures remain in place to provide support to programme participants before, during and after filming’.

‘Ahead of this series, contributors on the show will be offered video training and guidance covering inclusive language around disability, sexuality, race and ethnicity, behaviours and microaggressions,’ the firm said.

The Love Island final airs tonight from 9pm on ITV2 and ITV Hub.
