The final Love Island dates this week between the five remaining couples promised romance, extravagance and emotions.
But when it came to Luca Bish and Gemma Owen, viewers were cringing after slamming the date as ‘awkward’ and ‘dry’.
The fishmonger and Michael Owen’s daughter have had a wild ride in the villa after a few explosive rows, but they’ve come through as strong as ever… or so it seemed.
While they seemed to be enjoying their romantic date in a picturesque Majorcan setting, those watching on screen couldn’t help but cringe, especially when Gemma seemed to ‘friendzone’ Luca, calling him her ‘best mate’!
Talking about what life would be like for the pair after exiting the villa, where their relationship would be put to far greater tests than bombshells and Casa Amor, Luca said: ‘Even on the outside world, at this time in my life I didn’t think someone would come around and make me feel how you have.’

Gemma replied: ‘Since I’ve met you, I’m like, you’re more than just a partner, I do genuinely think I’ve found a best mate in here.’
‘Me too,’ he replied, adding: ‘Obviously being here with you, I don’t think I would have had a better date, and I am lucky to have you.’
The exclusive-but-not-yet-boyfriend-and-girlfriend pair left viewers cringing after the ‘awkward’ date.
‘Why is this date with Luca and Gemma so awkward I can feel it through my screen,’ one person wrote.
Another commented: ‘Gemma and Luca looked and sounded so bored on their date!! Zero chemistry,’ while a third penned: ‘Is it just me who can’t see any chemistry between Luca and Gemma at all. It seems so staged and awkward.’

Gemma and Luca’s date comes after ex-islander Lacey Edwards claiming the 19-year-old is ready to quit the villa before the final.
In a recent TikTok video she said: ‘With Luca and Gemma, I genuinely think they’re really in love and I think they’re almost over Love Island.
‘They’ve been in there so long and they’ve really found what they’re looking for, they could happily just move out together and go back home together now.
‘They’re over doing the games and challenges.
‘With Luca, it’s playing with his head. He’s like, “I just want my girl and I want to get out of here now.”‘
Love Island continues tomorrow night at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVHub.
