Love Island watchers heaved a sigh of relief as the simmering conflict between Casey O’Gorman and Claudia Fogarty finally came to a head.
Once Rosie Seabrook, 24, joined the villa three days ago, Casey, 26, turned his head and chose her in the latest recoupling, leaving Claudia, 28, in tears.
Since then, there’s been a lot of conversation about Casey not wanting to hurt Claudia’s feelings, but he was also hesitant to tell her that he felt more of a connection with Rosie.
Claudia, of course, had figured it out but was silently angry as she waited for Casey to tell her directly.
On Monday night’s show, the recruitment consultant eventually confessed his feelings to Claudia – but not before the former pair let their drama, and awkward tringle scenario with Rosie, completely dominate the Snog, Marry, Pie task.
Several of the lads, including Casey’s mates Will Young and Tom Clare, chose to’marry’ or kiss Claudia in the challenge, while later Lana Jenkins, Tanya Manhenga, and Sanam Harrinanan pied Casey and even helped Claudia load her cake with as much whipped cream as possible before she pied Casey as well.
Casey, on the other hand, chose to kiss Rosie – who returned the favour – and marry Claudia, despite her threats ahead of time: ‘I’m going to toss it in his face if he marries me!’
She did not, dear reader.
But, after Casey concluded the task, he was ultimately pressed into bringing Claudia aside for a discussion and revealing the obvious, so ending the tale.
He did argue, though, that he hadn’t made up his mind about loving Rosie more right away and needed a few days to think about it, which appeared to irritate Claudia even more.
Claudia noted that she was not there ‘to be regarded as an option,’ as the Islanders who had paired together to support her earlier in the challenge echoed, and that she would have appreciated a ‘apology’ for way he had treated her.
‘You can’t have your cake and eat it and I will be no-one’s option,’ she had said earlier, and also claimed in their discussion that she ‘could tell from the day when you first met her’ that Casey’s head was going to be turned.
Nevertheless, viewers at home were divided on who was to blame for the issue, but most could agree that they were relieved it was ultimately addressed (well, for now).
‘The Casey/Claudia storyline is over, WE WON,’ joked one viewer, while another tweeted: Finally this Casey Claudia drama is done with.’
‘Two episodes about Claudia and Casey yet we can’t vote?’ asked another as the episode kicked off.
It remains to be seen if the drama will be completed, and whether Casey and Rosie will be left to pursue a potential connection.
Love Island continue at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
