Love Island couple Davide Sanclimenti and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu have spoken to fans for the first time since beating Gemma Owen and Luca Bish in the finale.
The actress, 27, broke down in tears while the Italian business owner, also 27, looked shell-shocked when Laura Whitmore revealed they would be walking home with the £50,000 cash prize.
The couple, who had a volatile and passionate relationship in the Majorcan villa, beat runner’s up Gemma and Luca, Indiyah Polack and Dami Hope, who finished in third place.
Tasha Ghouri, the ITV2 programme’s first ever deaf contestant, and Andrew Le Page, 27, came in fourth place.
In a video shared to Love Island’s Twitter account, Ekin-Su and Davide look ecstatic as they shared their disbelief at being named the public’s favourite couple.
Ekin-Su said: ‘Thank you everyone for voting [for] us and thank you for making us who we are.’
Jumping in, Davide added: ‘I didn’t expect it. I still don’t believe it.’
‘I can’t believe it,’ Ekin-Su agreed. ‘I think everyone’s winners in here and I just feel really lucky to be here.’
‘We’re all four great couples but yeah thank you for everyone,’ Davide said graciously.
Still beaming from cheek to cheek, Ekin-Su told fans: ‘Thank you for everyone for going on our journey with us, it means so much, so much.’
Wrapping up the 30 second clip, Davide thanked voters: ‘Grazie a tutti for voting us!’
Ekin-Su’s final words were: ‘We love you! Ti amo!’
The tweet was captioned: ‘A message from your #LoveIsland 2022 winners Ekin-Su and Davide to everyone who loved watching them this summer.’
Shortly after being announced victors on Monday night, Davide revealed his favourite moment in the villa was branding Ekin-Su a ‘liar’ in a now iconic moment.
But he also sweetly told host Laura he would be bringing Ekin-Su to Italy to meet the rest of his family after she got the seal of approval from his mother and sister.
While fans were delighted the fiery couple won the reality series, they were less pleased about an unannounced shake-up of the show’s format.
In a twist, ITV scrapped the option for one of the winning couple to steal all of the prize money for themselves.
‘Not even asking them to split or steal the money?? I’ve wasted 8 weeks of my life,’ one fan wrote.
However, celebrities tuning in to Love Island and weighing in on the verdict inlcude Margot Robbie crediting Ekin-Su and Davide for providing ‘pure entertainment.’
Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp simply commented: ‘Yes!!!’ under Ekin-Su’s Instagram snap of her and Davide.
2019 winner Amber Gill tweeting: ‘MOM & DAD,’ along with a string of trophy emojis.
The entire series of Love Island is available to stream on the ITV Hub.
