Lucy Alexander is having a huge week. She’ll be a guest host on A Place in the Sun on Wednesday, and she couldn’t be more excited.
Lucy was wild with excitement while speaking to the media about the gig, which required her to fly to Spain with only a few days’ notice.
But, of course, we couldn’t talk to the queen of property TV without asking her about the programme that made her a household name, and as it turns out, a Homes Under the Hammer revival isn’t entirely out of the question.
Lucy, 52, exclaimed, ‘I want to do both!’ when asked if she could ever choose between Homes Under the Hammer and A Place in the Sun.
The presenter reiterated that she didn’t leave Homes Under the Hammer because she was bored of the gig, but rather ‘felt it was her time’.
‘I never wanted to leave the show in the first place,’ the doting mum explained, adding: ‘But I got offered a really lovely commercial deal and I’d done 14 years nearly at Homes Under the Hammer.’
She went on: ‘I felt like my time had come and then I got offered a few other lovely shows, so I did kind of think, “let’s fold this up now”.’
Is it possible that Lucy will return to Hammer?
‘I think it’s very much a case of I could return and it would be fantastic. I would love it and I think the viewers would love it,’ she shared.
‘Homes Under the Hammer is just in my DNA. I birthed that show. I was the first ever presenter on it. I did it for 14 years – I love that show.’
That’s not to say she’s not thrilled with her role on A Place in the Sun.

‘It was fantastic,’ Lucy told us excitedly. ‘I love getting close to people that want to buy property, property is my passion. It’s the love of my life.’
Explaining how the opportunity came to be, Lucy continued: ‘I was in my little cottage [in Whitstable] and my agent happened to be with me. The phone rang and she said, “well, I’m sure I’m sure she could”.
‘She sort of went a bit quiet and she looked at me and said, “can you be in Spain by Friday? The Place in the Sun wants you to go and do a guest presenting experience”.’
‘Obviously, I said yes,’ Lucy added, quipping: ‘I’m ready to hang up my steel cap shoes. I’m ready to put on my strappy sandals.’
What more can we look forward to from Lucy in 2023? She’d be perfect for Strictly Come Dancing.
Asked whether she’d take part in the show, Lucy was quick to reply: ‘I am here for it. I am here for it.’
She also noted: ‘And I would be really good, because I am an older woman. I am menopausal. I think I would surprise people because I’ve got a little bit of dance in my locker.’
We couldn’t let Lucy go without asking her for some hot real estate advice, and the star’s top recommendation for first-time buyers was straightforward.
‘Research,’ she explained. ‘You have to do your research thoroughly. You have to be the most nosy neighbour you possibly can be.’
‘And I want to see people bartering, haggling,’ she added: ‘The British are so scared to sort of say, “no, I’m not going to pay that”.
‘Put your offer on the table, walk away and be prepared to lose out. Take a bit more of a risk.’
