Monica Galetti of MasterChef said that her waters broke when she was working at Gordon Ramsay‘s restaurant.
The 48-year-old chef has been a judge on MasterChef: The Professionals since 2009, but took a one-season hiatus last year before returning.
But, in 2006, she was also working on another successful series when she had to quit for a totally different cause.
‘My water’s broke when I was yelling at one of chefs in Gordan Ramsay’s show Hell’s Kitchen and then next minute I was rushed off..’ she explained.
Monica and her French husband David Galetti later had a daughter named Anas.
However, this was not her first near call; the chef and judge also said that when working in Holland, she assisted in the delivery of another woman’s baby while the midwife was “stuck in traffic.”
‘I came to England and then went to the Channel Islands with a friend and went for the weekend and we ended up staying for four months,’ she added when speaking on the Ameliarate Through Wine podcast.
‘I worked at a cute hotel there and you can get to all the islands there it was brilliant and from there I went to work in Holland for a friend’s family and his wife was having a baby and needed someone to cover her maternity – and it just happened she went into labour while I was downstairs.
‘The midwife was stuck in traffic and I had to deliver the baby and then I went back downstairs to cook the dinner service.’
She added: ‘I then cried because I realised what had just happened. The Baby is called Denise and she is 23 this year!’
Monica announced her departure from MasterChef last year, citing scheduling constraints with her family, restaurant, and shooting responsibilities.
She then announced that her young nephew had cancer.
Back in July, she revealed on The Mid-Point podcast that all of these stresses saw her see a therapist for the first time.
‘I’ve never had so many things happening at the same time, I needed to reach out to outside help — someone just to talk to with everything. That was one of the best things I did,’ she explained.
‘I feel more energetic, more excited to be back in it this year having had that time out.’
MasterChef: The Professionals is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
