Gregg Wallace of MasterChef has lost five stone since 2017. What is his secret? There will be no dieting.
While many of us are thinking about improving our eating habits in the new year, the popular television chef, 58, has urged weightwatchers to abandon their tight diets.
Gregg joined Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley on Wednesday’s episode of Good Morning Britain to discuss why he opposes diet culture before recommending other strategies for losing weight.
‘Don’t go on a diet,’ he told the hosts. ‘Don’t do something that’s really difficult that you can’t maintain. We’re logical people, right? If it’s so difficult and so uncomfortable, you won’t keep it up.
‘What I tell everybody, and this is the key, eat three healthy meals a day.’

Gregg stated that eating is “happening by accident,” with many of us not planning our meals and instead buying pre-prepared food from supermarkets.
‘Plan!’ he encouraged. ‘Meal planning will help you eat healthily.’
The MasterChef judge also shared his three horsemen of weight gain: snacking, takeaways, and booze.
In July, Gregg revealed his desire to achieve the physique of a 20-year-old by the time he turns 60 with his new diet and exercise routine.
On why he embarked on his recent health journey, he said: ‘My motivation at the start was, “I just want to look better on the telly.”
‘But now it’s, “How fit can I actually get? Can I actually have the body of a 20-year-old at 60?” I’ve done everything. I’ve done fasting, no carbs, low fat. You name it, I tried it.
‘And yes, you can lose weight short-term. But it’s really uncomfortable and you won’t keep it up because you’re horribly hungry and miserable all the time.’
He added to the Sun: ‘I learnt that it’s far better to wean yourself off the crap diet slowly and cook proper, healthy meals, as you are far more likely to succeed and enjoy the change.
‘I’m not talking about lettuce leaves here, I’m taking about foods you want to eat.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1.
