Although Matt Hancock promised to donate his whole £200,000 I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! salary to charity, he has received criticism for giving only £10,000.
The former health secretary placed third following a contentious appearance on the reality show, behind soap star Owen Warner and Lioness Jill Scott.
Before appearing on the show, Hancock said that he would donate his participation fee to St. Nicholas Hospice Care, the organisation he had previously collected about £8,000 for in the 2021 London Marathon. His other contestants on the show were Boy George and Mike Tindall.
‘Matt will be making a donation to St Nicholas Hospice in Suffolk, and he will, of course, declare the amount he receives from the show to Parliament to ensure complete transparency, as normal,’ a source told us.
On Thursday, Hancock’s £320,000 salary for his month of work in the jungle was verified; earlier rumours had said the total may approach £400,000.
A representative for Hancock has now confirmed that he gave £10,000 to charity: ‘As well as raising the profile of his dyslexia campaign in front of 11-million viewers, Matt’s donated £10,000 to St Nicholas Hospice in Suffolk and the British Dyslexia Association, off the back of his appearance on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here.’
But now some are criticising Hancock for how little he’s given compared to how much money he made on the show.
‘I see Hancock earned £320k for I’m A Celeb and he gave £10k of it to charity. A whole 3.1% of the fee. I thought it was all about charity and raising the profile of his dyslexia campaign. Don’t tell me Matt was less than honest with the Great British public,’ one person wrote.
One more commented on how pitiful it was that they only gave 10% of their $320,000 charge to charity. He should donate the full sum because he didn’t work for it.

‘When I heard Matt Hancock would be donating his I’m A Celeb fee to charity, I thought ok, that’s something.. turns out he’s only donated £10k of his £320k fee?! F**kin’ scumbag,’ someone else wrote.
Additionally, Hancock made £45,000 for his participation in the reality show Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, for which he filmed for 80 hours.
His first week of October was spent on set, soon before he left for I’m a Celebrity… in Australia.
Reports have him co-starring in the upcoming show with Gareth Gates and James Argent.
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! is available to watch on ITVX.
