Meghan Markle has revealed she has absolutely no intentions of venturing back into the world of acting… but if her children wanted to pursue careers in entertainment, she’d support them wholeheartedly.
All the way back in 2018, a year before her lavish Windsor wedding to Prince Harry, Meghan appeared in her final episode of legal drama Suits, having played the role of Rachel Zane since its 2011 premiere.
Following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to step down as senior members of the royal family, the pair have been pursuing ventures including an upcoming Netflix docu-series and Meghan’s Spotify podcast Archetypes, on which she’s welcomed guests including Serena Williams and Mariah Carey.
In a new interview, the 41-year-old admitted that when she bowed out of Suits, she never thought she would ‘ever be in the entertainment industry again’… but ‘the entire culture has changed’ with the boom of streaming platforms.
As for whether she would ever consider acting again, Meghan is extremely firm in her decision, telling Variety: ‘No. I’m done.’
Maintaining an open-minded view, she added: ‘I guess never say never, but my intention is to absolutely not.’
Despite personally not wanting to pick up a script again, she revealed that if her three-year-old son Archie or her one-year-old daughter Lilibet wanted to get into acting, she wouldn’t dissuade them from doing so.
‘I would say, “Great!” When you become a parent, you genuinely want your kids to find the things that bring them complete joy,’ she said.
‘They’re our kids, obviously, and they’re part of a legacy and a tradition and a family that will have other expectations. But I want them to be able to carve out their own path. If it’s the entertainment industry, great. And also, good luck.’
Meghan noted that ‘many people’ will discuss ‘what opened the door for my children’, but she stressed that it ‘still takes talent and a lot of grit’.
In 2020, Meghan and Harry launched a company called Archewell, through which they explore projects including non-profit work and creative endeavours.
The duchess shared that when it comes to scripted productions, they’re keen to ‘do something fun’, along the lines of a ‘good rom-com’, citing When Harry Met Sally and films starring Julia Roberts as inspiration.
