On Have I Got News For You, Mel Giedroyc made a scathing joke about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s automobile pursuit.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were embroiled in a ‘near catastrophic’ paparazzi chase in New York on Tuesday night that lasted more than two hours.
According to a spokeswoman for the former Royal couple, the event led in’multiple near crashes involving other automobiles on the road, pedestrians, and two NYPD (New York Police Department) officers.’
According to the NYPD, ‘several’ photographers followed Harry, 38, and Meghan, 41, making their transportation ‘difficult.’
They added: ‘The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at their destination and there were no reported collisions, summonses, injuries, or arrests in regard.’
Several celebs, including, inevitably, Piers Morgan, have commented on the chase, with the most recent being former Great British Bake Off host Mel, 54.
Mel, who recently stole the show at Eurovision with her sexy milk churning, co-hosted Friday’s HIGNFY with usual team leaders Ian Hislop, 62, and Paul Merton, 65.
When discussing the top stories in the UK, Harry and Meghan’s romance came up, and Ian jumped right in.
He said: ‘Well, it’s much contested. One version was it was a catastrophic car chase through New York at immense high speed at which nearly everybody in the city died.
‘And there’s another version coming from the mayor and the policeman saying, “Yeah, well, you know, they were chasing them a bit, but it’s all right. And everyone’s fine.”
‘You’re right, though Ian,’ Mel began. ‘Because according to their spokesperson, while traveling back from an award ceremony in New York, the Prince, Megan and her mom were followed by Papparrazzi which led to a near catastrophic car chase
And then she delivered the savage gag: ‘It being near catastrophic because without their statement the press nearly didn’t pick up on it.’
Harry and Meghan made their first public appearance together since the duchess missed the King’s coronation earlier this month.
Prior to the altercation, they were attending the Ms. Foundation Women of Vision Awards with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.
