Love Island 2019 finalist Molly-Mae Hague has come out in support of this year’s contestant Tasha Ghouri, after some of the boys accused her of using Andrew Le Page to get to the final.
Tasha and Andrew are the only couple to have been coupled up since the beginning of this year’s series, after being paired by the public.
The duo have faced their fair share of ups and downs, but became the first duo to officially become boyfriend and girlfriend, and have since discussed plans to move in together.
However, they’ve received some criticism from their fellow islanders, notably Luca Bish, who accused Tasha of ‘riding Andrew’s coattails’ in order to get to this year’s finale.
Tasha and Andrew also found themselves in the bottom three every time the public voted for their favourite islanders, until this week, which proved a hard pill to swallow for Tasha.
The dancer has since stood up to Luca Bish and Dami Hope after they repeatedly targeted her in various challenges and called her ‘fake’, to which the duo later apologised.
Now, former finalist Molly-Mae, who is still in a relationship with Tommy Fury three years on from her stint, has shared her sympathies towards Tasha.
Chatting in her latest YouTube vlog, she told fans: ‘That was literally me guys. That was literally me.
‘I feel sorry for her because obviously, we don’t know, I guess we’ll see when her and Andrew come out but you can’t accuse someone of being fake.
She went on to explain why her experience was similar, adding: ‘I was basically “the Tasha”, everyone accusing me of being fake.
‘Everyone was saying I was with Tommy to get to the final and here we are three years on.
‘Maybe Tasha will prove the boys in the villa wrong. She is real.’
Viewers came out to echo Molly’s comments, with one writing: ‘I’m so glad that you talked about the Tasha situation on Love Island because I can’t understand the hate towards her either – I think she seems like a sweetheart!
‘Someone like yourself with your platform and following showing your support will be hugely beneficial for her mental health.’
‘Omg I love Tash! I don’t get why people are hating on her, she is so sweet,’ agreed someone else.
A fan weighed in: ‘I 100% agree about Tasha. I feel like there are several people on the show who have done worse things than her (idk how it’s even her fault that every guy coming into the villa wanted to get to know her). So many double standards going on.’
She’s not the only person to express her concerns over the behaviour directed towards Tasha, as Katherine Ryan also shared her worries about the dancer’s upset over continuously being in the bottom.
After stressing the importance of duty of care to ITV, which provides training on dealing with social media and adjusting to life back home, in her latest episode of her Telling Everybody Everything podcast, Katherine asked: ‘How the hell they are letting Tasha continue to be in the process when she clearly will not be able to handle criticism when she gets out?’
Luckily, after winning over Love Island fans, Tasha and Andrew both sailed through the latest public vote, as the pair’s romance continues to blossom.
Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
