Motsi Mabuse has admitted she ‘understands’ why the Strictly Come Dancing curse can occur… while also admitting that fans don’t know half of what goes on behind the scenes.
We’re listening.
Very soon, the 2022 series of Strictly is set to launch, with stars including Helen Skelton, James Bye, Fleur East and Kym Marsh among the celebrities announced in this year’s line-up.
While fans can’t wait to see who’ll wow with their professional dance partners, speculation always surrounds possible romances sparked between the contestants and pros, with previous relationships that came from the show including Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton, as well as Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Márquez.
Strictly judge Motsi, who’s married to fellow dancer Evgenij Voznyuk, recalled how she noticed her future husband’s ‘beautiful eyelashes’ when they first took to the dancefloor together.
When asked if that meant she understood the Strictly curse, the dancer told The Telegraph: ‘I understand it completely. Especially when you become a team and you’re together and you feel like everybody is against you; then you get closer and spend all this amount of time away from reality.’
She continued, adding: ‘There’s a certain type of energy that happens and then… oops!’
While the conversation surrounding the so-called Strictly curse is sometimes simply based on rumours rather than facts, Motsi – who recently released her book Finding My Own Rhythm: My Story – teased that there’s a lot of saucy gossip that fans may never find out about.
‘Oh my God, I think half of the stuff that’s happening, people don’t even know,’ she confessed.
‘Yeah, you can see. Everybody has vibes. There’s an energy, a laugh, a hand, a look.’
Ahead of the 2022 series of Strictly, Motsi’s sister Oti Mabuse revealed she would be stepping down as a professional dancer on the show.
So could Motsi follow in her footsteps by departing the programme? Thankfully, it doesn’t sound as though she’s considering leaving any time soon.
‘I’ll continue to fly the Mabuse flag on Strictly for as long as they want,’ she told Prima magazine.
We’re relieved to hear it!
Strictly Come Dancing is set to return this year on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
