Netflix has revealed the release date for Heartstopper Season 2 – and we’re ecstatic.
When the young adult series premiered last year, it shattered streaming records, attracting millions of fans and catapulting young actors to worldwide renown.
The series, which stars Kit Connor as rugby lad Nick Nelson and Joe Locke as timid youngster Charlie Spring, depicts the pair’s romantic connection when they are students at an all-boys grammar school.
They have no option but to keep things quiet since Charlie is being bullied and Nick has not yet come out.
The series, which also stars Yasmin Finney and William Gao, really tugs at the heartstrings and was luckily extended for two more seasons following the popularity of the first.
While fans have been pleading with Netflix for a release date for months, the wait is over: Heartstopper season 2 will be available on August 3!
Netflix made the news on Twitter, writing, ‘We can now tell you…Heartstopper Season 2 premieres on Netflix on August 3rd!!!’, followed by a slew of leaf emoji, which have become synonymous with the programme.
They also released a video that provided an exclusive behind-the-scenes peek at the next episodes, while the actors previewed what was to come for their characters.
‘There’s more going on, I’d say,’ teases Corinna Brown, who plays Tara Jones.
‘We might expect Imogen to start taking care of herself a bit more and put herself above boys,’ adds actress Rhea Norwood.
‘There are so many things that happen with Elle this season that you’re not ready for,’ adds Doctor Who star Yasmin, filling us all with suspense.
‘I would say Elle is different in that she’s more confident. She surrounds herself with people that elevate her.’
Kit promises ‘great’ scripts from Alice Oseman, the original Heartstopper graphic novelist.
‘It also feels cool and fresh. A different vibe to season one,’ he shares.
Fellow lead actor Joe adds that his character goes on a ‘journey’ this time.
‘His story’s a bit more mature,’ he assures.
The film also features cast members goofing off on site, as well as a few sneak peeks at new characters.
Fans couldn’t find the words to convey their pleasure in response to the announcement they’d all been waiting for.
‘OH MY GOD. I COULD SOB. THAT’S NOT THAT FAR AWAY. AHHHHHH’, one replied.
‘i’m actually SCREAMING’, declared another.
Netflix provided further information in a subsequent tweet.
‘In Heartstopper Season 2… Nick and Charlie navigate their new relationship; Tara and Darcy face unforeseen challenges; Tao and Elle work out if they can ever be more than just friends. Plus there’s exams, a school trip to Paris, and prom!’
Honestly, we cannot wait.
Heartstopper season 1 is available to stream on Netflix and season 2 lands on August 3.
