The producers of a Netflix reality programme inspired by The Squid Game have denied allegations of “serious injury” on filming.
An announcement of a reality spin-off programme was made after the release of the bloody South Korean drama, which debuted on the streaming platform in 2021.
The programme titled – Squid Game: The Challenge as is described as “the greatest reality competition ever,” and the show’s application release said that 456 contestants will vie for a total of $4.56 million (£3.7 million).
The media recently reported that several people who took part in a challenge based on the Red Light, Green Light game from the pilot episode of the original drama became so chilly they needed medical assistance.
It was reported in The Sun that several of the competitors “couldn’t move their feet” because of the freezing temperatures.
After the investigation came out, Netflix and the production firms Studio Lambert and The Garden both issued statements denying the report’s assertions of significant harm.
‘We care deeply about the health and safety of our cast and crew, and invested in all the appropriate safety procedures. While it was very cold on set – and participants were prepared for that – any claims of serious injury are untrue,’ they said in a statement sent to the media.
It’s understood that three players required medical attention for mild conditions, with medics present on set at all times.
Production on the reality competition is said to have begun on Monday at Bedford’s Cardington Studios, Variety reported.

Players in Red Light, Green Light race to cross the finish line first, but in Squid Game when the giant robotic doll turns around, everyone must remain perfectly still.
Players were instantly eliminated from the Squid Game if their movements were detected.
Taking out the killing meant that the game, understandably, could not possibly be played precisely the same.
The reality show’s adaptation, the report claims, was shot in what was formerly an aviation hangar, which, given the weather, would have been rather chilly.
The players were probably given hand warmers and thermal undergarments to utilise while filming.
Squid Game is available to watch on Netflix.
