According to one of the series’ performers, the last installment of the acclaimed Netflix series Snowpiercer might yet see the light of day.
It was stated in January that the dystopian thriller had been cancelled after filming was completed and would not be shown.
‘We can confirm that TNT will not show season four of Snowpiercer,’ a network representative stated at the time.
‘This was a difficult decision, but our admiration for the talented writers, actors and crew who brought Snowpiercer’s extraordinary post-apocalyptic world to life remains strong.’
The statement continued, according to Deadline: ‘We have been working collaboratively with the producers since last year to help the series find a new home where fans can continue to enjoy the compelling story and exceptional visual experience. We look forward to working with them on future projects.’
However, Sam Roche actor Mike O’Malley has promised that the completed fourth and final season would be available ‘somewhere’.
While he admitted he’s ‘trying to get an answer’ on when season four might air, O’Malley assured: ‘But that entire fourth season is in the can and that’s going to end up somewhere.’
When asked if season four was written as the final, he continued to TV Line: ‘We were actually hoping that we’d keep going, but I think there’s an ending to that where it could be the end, and it’s very hopeful…
‘So I really, really can’t wait for that show to get out there and for people to see it, because it’s awesome.’
The first season of Snowpiercer launched on Netflix in 2020, based on both the 2013 film of the same name, directed by Parasite’s Bong Joon-ho, and the 1982 French visual book Le Transperceneige.
It starred Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs as passengers on the huge, continually moving train of the same name, which circled the globe transporting the last remains of civilization seven years after the Earth became a frozen wasteland.
When the cancellation was announced, Tomorrow Studios CEO Marty Adelstein and President Becky Clements stated that they will search for new methods to broadcast the final season.
‘We love Snowpiercer and believe season four completes a story with incredible talent that will entertain viewers while exploring issues of climate change and class warfare,’ they said.
The execs added that they are ‘so passionate about this series’ that they have ‘acquired the rights to control the franchise,’ and hoped to source the ‘perfect partner shortly and finish a great ride with the final season.’
Seasons one to three of Snowpiercer are available to watch on Netflix.
