On Pancake Tuesday, Nick Knowles surprised fans by sharing his favourite – and extremely unique – pancake toppings.
When serving the doughy cuisine, the 60-year-old presenter stated he aimed for savoury flavours, but with a twist.
Nick compares the traditional sweet delicacy to a Yorkshire pudding and says he lathers his pancakes in gravy whenever he eats them.
He left hosts Lauren Laverne and Jermaine Jenas dumbfounded when he revealed his unusual choice on BBC’s The One Show.
When questioned over their Pancake Day toppings, Nick curtly responded with: ‘Gravy.
‘I know it’s a big call – even in America they would think that’s bold – but if you think about it it’s the same recipe for a Yorkshire pudding so it’s only a flat Yorkshire pudding.’
Jermaine disagreed with the TV star, saying, ‘I’m not sure whether people would perceive it that way.’
‘My eight-year-old this evening is having lemon and sugar and that’s how he likes them,’ Nick continued sharing his household’s take on the traditional day.
Joined by Rita Wilson on the sofa for the show, the actor – who is the wife of Tom Hanks – also chimed in on the pancake controversy and said she would want to ‘give a shout out to the waffles’.
‘When’s waffle day, we need our own waffle day,’ she demanded on Tuesday night’s episode.
Nick appeared on the show to promote a new series in which he would tackle the Grand Canyon.
‘I went to the Grand Canyon when I was around 28 and went to work in Phoenix, Arizona for a TV station over there when I used to work in news,’ he said of his most recent exploits.
‘I went there and it was just the most beautiful place and so when I got a chance to travel again I wanted to go back there but rather than just visit I wanted to throw myself into it.
‘When you see travellers, they’re ex-military and they should be fit but there’s a lot of me and I’m 60 so it’s that thing of can a bloke that’s just off the sofa go and actually have a go at these things and test myself.’
The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
