Olly Murs has confessed that he is ‘gutted’ that his talent show Starstruck has been cancelled, but that it would be difficult to bring back to television.
The singing series, based on the luminaries In Their Eyes formula, debuted last year and featured members of the public portraying Hollywood luminaries.
The programme was hosted by Olly, 39, and judged by Adam Lambert, Beverley Knight, Shania Twain, and Jason Manford.
However, it was announced early this year that the programme had been cancelled after two seasons.
Olly has now stated that the show is over.
‘Presenting is something I have always loved doing. Starstruck was amazing but that isn’t coming back,’ he said.
‘I am gutted it is such a great show. In this game, things change so quickly.
‘The ratings did really well but in terms of money and stuff like that, it just didn’t work,’ he added when speaking to The Sun at the National Television Awards this week.
As a consequence of their vocal abilities, the victors of each season received a £50,000 award.
Throughout the concert, impersonators dressed up as Freddie Mercury, Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, and Dolly Parton.
While that show isn’t returning, Olly said he’d want to see The X Factor, where he got his start in 2009, return.
‘I love any show that gives people a crack at this industry. If it wasn’t for that show I wouldn’t be here,’ he said.
‘Me and Simon are great, it’s been a long time.
‘Whether it’s The X Factor or The Voice, there are so many voices that need to be heard. Working on The Voice for me has always been an honour.’
Earlier this year, a source told The Daily Star that plans to film a new series this autumn and show it in 2024 had been “scrapped.”
‘Starstruck was popular, but it wasn’t as big as shows like Britain’s Got Talent and The Masked Singer, so it was always at risk of being sidelined for something else,’ they added.
An ITV spokesperson then told Express.co.uk a third season was yet to be confirmed.
