Could Mark McKenna be making a shock return to One Of Us Is Lying as Simon Kelleher? His co-stars are hoping so…
Simon died in the very first episode of the Peacock series, with the remaining instalments focused on finding out who was responsible for his death, after the Bayview four – Addy, Cooper, Nate and Bronwyn – unwittingly found themselves in the frame.
With season two finally premiering this week, the cast revealed their hopes that he could somehow return.
Let’s be honest, it wouldn’t be the wildest twist that the ‘murder club’ have been faced with…
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Marianly Tejada, who plays Bronwyn, told us: ‘Simon should make a comeback. Mark McKenna was so fun to work with, and he’s so great. He brings such a different energy to the past and the dynamic.
‘I feel like we missed that in season two. Mark, this is an official appeal that you’re coming back to the show.’
‘Legit, this is a shout out,’ Nate actor Cooper van Grootel agreed. ‘We missed Mark, he’s great.’
When taking their wishes to showrunner Erica Saleh, she didn’t quite shut things down, instead branding the suggestion ‘interesting’.
‘Oh, they want Simon himself back for season three? Interesting! I like that they’re making you the messenger there,’ she laughed. ‘Having you do the dirty work.
‘Mark McKenna, who plays Simon, is just the absolute best. We all love him so much and killing him in season one – in the pilot – was heartbreaking because he’s incredible. He’s such a great actor, he’s so much fun on set.
‘I don’t know. I’ll have to find out how they think we should bring him back. If they’ve got some brilliant ideas, maybe I’ll steal them!’
Petition for Marianly and Cooper to get their thinking caps on immediately.
The first series One Of Us Is Lying ended with the Bayview Four battling to clear their names Simon’s death, before uncovering Jake’s (Barrett Carnahan) role in his demise.
Following an ominous gunshot in the woods, Jake died and the gang assumed that they would be able to move on – until they were sent a message by a mysterious ‘Simon Says’, who informed them that the drama was only just getting started.
Discussing the second series, Erica previously added: ‘On its surface, One Of Us Is Lying is a murder mystery, and that part is thrilling to write and (I hope!) thrilling to watch.
‘But, at its heart, this is a character drama about teenagers growing up and finding their way to live more authentic, honest lives. In the first season our heroes began as high school archetypes straight out of The Breakfast Club – the nerd, the jock, the beauty, and the bad boy.
‘But after witnessing a classmate die and becoming suspects in his murder, they were forced to become more honest about who they are and what they want. Over the course of the season, we peeled back the layers and revealed the real, complex kids fighting to break free of these clichés.
‘In Season Two, we continue this surprising emotional journey as our kids reckon with the thrill and fear of showing the world who they really are… while hiding a deadly secret and being tortured by the mysterious Simon Says. And we have a ton of juicy, soapy fun while we do it!’
One Of Us Is Lying season two premieres on October 20 on Peacock.
