Pete Wicks has explained why his face appeared ‘abnormal’ on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! while supporting best mate Sam Thompson.
Last week, the 35-year-old former Towie star appeared on the reality show after jetting down under for Made in Chelsea star Sam, who was elected King of the Jungle.
Fans were concerned after Pete’s appearance changed, and some thought that he’d received cosmetic surgery since his face was puffier than normal.
Pete has now described the change in his appearance, which was the consequence of an animal encounter, a few days later.
He revealed what had transpired after uploading a photo of himself hugging Sam in a hotel lobby.
‘Also, you’ll all be pleased to know my face has returned to normal following the horrific reaction I had to the mosquito bites,’ he wrote on Instagram.
‘They saw my face and thought it was an all you can eat buffet.’
He followed up with another post, a selfie, which he captioned: ‘Thankfully my face has returned to normal following the brutal and unprovoked attack by Australian mosquitos.
‘Thank you all for your support during this difficult time.’
On Sunday night, former Made in Chelsea actor Sam, 31, was crowned King of the Jungle, defeating retired boxer Tony Bellew, 41, who finished second, and ex-politician Nigel Farage, 59, who finished third.
Ahead of the announcement, Sam had said the show was ‘the most surreal thing I’ve ever done in my life’.
When he was announced as the winner, he expressed how he was ‘overwhelmed’ by the outcome.
‘I didn’t think I’d even be invited on the show. I don’t know what to say.’
Asked what he had to say to those who had voted for him, he tearfully said: ‘I’m so grateful, thank you so much. I’ve dreamed of doing this show for years and years and you’ve made a boy’s dream come true.’
Pete and Sam first met on Celebs Go Dating back in 2019 and have been firm friends ever since.
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! is streaming on ITVX.
