Phillip Schofield has had a busy week and has retreated to Cornwall for some peace and quiet following his departure from This Morning.
The 61-year-old presenter revealed on Saturday that he will be leaving the ITV afternoon programme with ‘immediate effect’ after more than 20 years of service.
Phil’s resignation came after rumours of a ‘feud’ between himself and his co-star Holly Willoughby, with claims alleging they scarcely communicated behind closed doors.
It also came after his brother, Timothy Schofield, was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Friday for child sex charges.
Phil has been pictured strolling with his 85-year-old mother Pat in Cornwall after announcing his departure.
In one snap published by The Sun, he could be seen holding onto his mother’s hand while they strolled along a coastal path, the sea behind them in the distance.
As they basked in the sun and enjoyed one other’s company, the mother and son embraced and giggled.
Phil wore blue trousers, a white sweatshirt, and Converse.
The photos were shot just seconds after Phil announced on his Instagram page that his appearance on This Morning on Thursday would be his last.
He wrote at the time: ‘I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story.
‘Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind.
‘I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.’
Phil’s statement continued: ‘So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future.
‘I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning’s amazing viewers – and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month.’
While Holly will stay on This Morning, ITV has stated that she will take an early half-term break next week and return on June 5.
Following Phil’s departure, Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary will present the show on Monday. It is unknown who will host the rest of the week.
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1.
