Piers Morgan shared his take on the audience’s reaction to his nomination and appearance at the National Television Awards in London’s O2 Arena on Tuesday.
The 58-year-old was thought to have been booed as host Joel Dommett introduced him. However, Piers claimed that was not the case.
Losing the best TV interview gong to Graham Norton, Piers reflected on his evening during his TalkTV segment on Wednesday.
He slammed the idea he was booed, suggesting the reaction was for host Joel, not him. Piers played footage of the moment, saying: “I haven’t heard cheering like that since One Direction re-formed.”
He suggested the “low-level smattering of boos” was aimed at Joel, who he claimed he’d “literally never heard of.” When guests couldn’t ID Joel, Piers said: “I think they were just booing the badness of the jokes.”

Piers thanked viewers for support and vowed to win next time. He later admitted on his show that losing to Graham Norton “p***es [him] off.”
Earlier, Piers left fans confused by sharing a picture of himself crowded on the tube en route to the awards.
