Shonda Rimes, the author of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, stated that she did not include Meghan Markle‘s experience with the Royal Family.
This series, a precursor to the massively famous period drama, centres on young Queen Charlotte’s ascent to popularity and power, as well as her romance with King George (Corey Mylchreest).
In the six-part series, Golda Rosheuvel reprises her role as the queen, while India Amarteifio plays a younger version of the figure.
Charlotte is a mixed-race woman in this version, performed by India Amarteifio, then Golda Rosheuvel later on – and fans previously alleged that the Duchess of Sussex was utilised as inspiration.
Shonda Rhimes, the show’s creator, said such was not the case.
‘Meghan Markle did not enter into it,’ she told Vulture.
‘My brain mostly thinks in terms of American politics, unfortunately, so I was really thinking about what would happen if this girl, Charlotte, came to America and was married off and how that was handled.’
While the Bridgerton spin-off was touted as a limited series, many fans are hoping for a season 2.
Shonda recently addressed the possibility of a second instalment but she’s ‘not having conversations about it yet’.
‘I could live with Charlotte and George forever, but we told a very specific, closed-ended story that I think is a complete tale of this complicated, imperfect love,’ she told Entertainment Weekly.
‘But I’m not ruling anything out because I never know.’
With almost 20 sex scenes spread across six episodes, Queen Charlotte surely delivered on the bawdy content.
‘I’m only on episode 3 and there has been more sex than both seasons of Bridgeton combined,’ someone pointed out.
Another added: ‘This s*** got me sweating.’
India claimed that she had some difficult moments after seeing her sex scenes with her mother.
When she appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the 21-year-old suggested some of her family members to pick up some booze before watching the show.
‘I just felt like I needed to jump in the deep end and show her all the steamy scenes and get it out of the way and then we can get past it,’ she explained.
Queen Charlotte is available to stream on Netflix.
