An axe injury prompted a competitor on Channel 4’s most intense show to withdraw within hours.
The new survival programme Alone is one of the most terrifying shows to date, following 11 players who are abandoned in the Canadian wilderness with no food, water, shelter, or, as the title implies, companionship.
Whoever is the last contender remaining wins £100,000.
Mike, 49, is one of the average British citizens who boldly accepted the task.
During the programme, he revealed that he was a heroin addict who turned his life around and joined the show in the hopes that it would ‘open doors’ and begin a new chapter in his life.
Unfortunately, he became the first person to resign barely four hours after being dropped off, after accidentally slashing his leg with an axe while building his shelter.

Even though the candidates were not accompanied by a crew, they did film themselves.
Mike told the camera: ‘I can’t f***ing believe it. I’ve f***ing nailed myself. F***ing hell man, it’s bleeding now.
‘F***ing hit the side of my leg with an axe and I know it needs stitches. Absolutely gutted.’

While being recused, he elaborated: ‘Absolutely devastated. I’ve worked with tools all my life.
‘This was going to be the start of something different, and it’s all collapsed. Didn’t even get a chance.’
In the first episode of Alone, some players quickly learned they were in the company of large predators, with one being accosted by a bear.
Others have reported hearing wolves, seeing moose, and perhaps running into a cougar.
A bear prowled around their tent at night, leaving one participant frightened.
Alone is available to stream on All 4.
