Richard Hammond has stated that his daughter made some scathing comments about their financial future after he left Top Gear in 2015.
In March 2015, it was claimed that Hammond’s Top Gear co-star Jeremy Clarkson got into an argument with a producer over a steak after the dish was brought lukewarm after a day of filming.
Clarkson was fired from the show by the BBC after assaulting producer Oisin Tymon, who eventually obtained a £100,000 settlement from the television host.
Following Clarkson’s departure from Top Gear, which debuted in 2002, co-presenters James May and Hammond chose to quit as well, claiming that the three ‘comes as a package,’ before going on to star in the Amazon series The Grand Tour together.
Hammond opened up about his finances at the time, and his daughter Izzy made light of the situation with humorous public comments.
‘After we finished the concert, James had came over to stay with me for a few days,’ Hammond revealed on the Fuelling Around podcast. We’d gone to Kentucky Fried Chicken with Izzy to get lunch for everyone.
We got to the front of the queue, put our order in, and James said: “Oh, oh, I’ll pay,” and I said “no, no mate, I’ll pay” and he said “no, no, no I’ll pay”.
‘And there was a pause, just when the whole restaurant had gone quiet, and Izzy said: “Well technically lads, I should pay as you haven’t got a job between you”. And the place detonated with laughter.’
He continued: ‘She obviously then thought, “This is the best game”.
‘So subsequently, at the end of the queue in Morrisons, I’m home so I was doing the shopping, as I was waiting to pay she would say very loudly: “Daddy, daddy, so when does your credit card stop working?” and I’d go “Oh, for God’s sake,” and again a whole store of people were in hysterics.’
This follows claims that Hammond, May, and Clarkson’s The Grand Tour has been cancelled in the aftermath of his writing on Meghan Markle.
The Clarkson’s Farm singer, 62, sparked outrage last month when he said he ‘hated’ the Duchess of Sussex on a ‘cellular level’ and fantasised about her being paraded through the streets and ridiculed.
According to rumours, Amazon Prime Video will no longer collaborate with the TV personality after the seasons of The Grand Tour and Clarkson’s Farm that have already been ordered.
This means that the Top Gear star will not appear in any new Prime Video programmes after 2024.
