Richard Madeley has revealed that he suffered a fall moments before going on air for Monday’s episode of Good Morning Britain.
The presenter, 66, co-hosted the latest instalment of the ITV programme alongside Kate Garraway live from Whiston Hospital where they sat in the outpatient reception and interviewed staff and patients.
During the controversial show, which came under fire from some uncomfortable audiences, Madeley shared that he slipped over on the snow, which has swept the country and brought traffic to a standstill, shortly after arriving in Merseyside.
‘It snowed here, I think the day before yesterday, so they’ve had a lot of falls,’ Madeley said referring to the intake of patients at Whiston.
‘I fell over this morning getting out of the car,’ he continued.

‘Richard nearly didn’t make it on air,’ Garraway added. ‘It was very tense.’
Madeley didn’t appear to have sustained any injuries and pressed on with his reporting after dropping the bombshell.
‘[There are] a lot of people all over the country walking in [to hospitals] with fall accidents, so that is really putting the pressure up,’ Madeley said.
No sooner than the episode started, the hosts explained that the show had been invited to broadcast from inside a hospital to hear from patients receiving treatment and from NHS staff on the frontline.
‘We have unprecedented access just to see what is really happening,’ Madeley announced.
‘It’s been fascinating being here,’ Garraway told viewers. ‘It’s a really impressive hospital, extraordinary staff, but my goodness are they under pressure.’
It’s understood that Good Morning Britain was invited by Whiston Hospital today to film a special live episode to help illustrate the immense pressures the NHS is under this winter.
Cameras were only given access to areas that would not encroach upon patient care or privacy.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1.
