Doctor Who has revealed the core cast and numerous guest actors, but Russell T Davies is keeping something secret to surprise audiences.
The main series will resume in November, with Sex Education’s Ncuti Gatwa, 30, playing the Fifteenth Doctor. The Timelord will, of course, be accompanied by his trusty companion, played by Millie Gibson, 18, of Coronation Street, who has been observed filming.
Among those acting on the BBC science-fiction show are Jonathan Groff, 38, who will play a ‘important role,’ and Lenny Rush, 14, who will portray a character named Morris, which he describes as a ‘dream role.’
Another significant guest performer has joined the already impressive cast, with sequences shot in a studio, making it simpler to maintain the secret.
‘There’s a great set in the very last block of the 2024 series. It only appears for one scene. But a crucial scene,’ Russell teased in this month’s Doctor Who Magazine.
‘With a really lovely guest star, unseen by the public, unannounced in the press, cos the scene takes place secretly within the studio, so you’ve got a nice surprise to come…’
Russell explained his excitement for this famous mystery star encouraged him to visit the set.
‘And then! Look! It’s me! Wandering onto the set. Coming to have a little shufti. (But really to meet the guest star, cos, y’know, famous, okay?),’ he wrote.
Ncuti, who is already a billionaire, stated that he wasn’t a huge fan of the programme before applying for the job, but before auditioning, he chose to watch every single episode since the show’s 2005 revival, after which he became a die-hard Whovian.
‘I fell in love with it. When you watch it, you forget all your troubles,’ he shared.
‘You go to space, or to another time. You have adventures.’
He also explained that his version of the character would be ‘emotionally vulnerable’ and whilst he hid those traits with humour, he was ‘lonely’.
