During the Barbie press trip, Ryan Gosling heard some Love Island slang for the first time. He was more than a little confused.
During an interview with Kiss FM, Ryan, who is 42 years old, was asked to guess what different words from the ITV dating show meant.
He was having a hard time, harder than a bombshell with a recoupling event coming up. Luckily, his biggest friend Margot Robbie was there to help him out.
Firstly he’s asked what ‘pied’ could possibly mean. They may as well of been talking in another language as he replied: ‘Is that another medical procedure?’
Not quite Ryan! Jordan Banjo, 30, and Perri Kiely, 27, explain that it’s another word for rejection.
‘Ken has been pied for 70 years,’ he said in response.
Jordan had asked the players earlier in the interview if his coworkers had made fun of him by making a Barbie meme with his face and the words “Ken with a vasectomy.” This seemed like a strange medical connection.
‘Is that what mugging off means? Vasectomy?’
Again, not quite but we appreciate his willingness to have a guess.
Next up in his Love Island education was ‘sauce.’ The Urban Dictionary describes it as when ‘someone has a style, confidence and attraction about them’.
Ryan plead the fifth and said: ‘I don’t want to go anywhere near that.’
In the same way, he didn’t understand what factor 50 meant, which is when someone tries too hard. Margot tells him that Ken does this a lot.
‘Is this an intervention?’ joked Ryan.
Then Margot was asked what she thought Barbie and Ken’s characters would do on Love Island.
‘I think Ken would do exceptionally well,’ she began.
‘He wears his heart on his sleeve and I think the audience really responds to that.’
Ryan then asked Margot, ‘How do you do well on Love Island?’
We think this is a question philosophers will be attempting to answer in 20 years’ time.
