During the popular Ring My Bell game, Ant and Dec‘s Saturday Night Takeaway became completely wild.
As Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly cut to Ring doorbells across the nation belonging to the live audience, the segment quickly became a popular favourite.
When a member of the audience recognises their doorbell and exclaims, ‘Ding dong, that’s my doorbell,’ a friend must rush to the door, typically bearing a specific domestic object, and exclaim, ‘Ring my bell!’
Ant and Dec went big for the series finale, urging fans to bring chairs, dirty laundry, and even ironing boards to their neighbours’ doorways.
However, chaos followed when an elderly lady arrived at the incorrect home at the wrong moment.
The sweet elderly lady, who later revealed her name was Cynthia, had no clue what was going on, having apparently just popped round to her neighbour’s home for a catch-up.
She had no idea she was on primetime ITV, or that she had fallen into a game that had everyone in hysterics.
Oh, and she certainly wasn’t carrying any soiled clothes!
‘What’s your name? What’s your name?’, Ant inquired frequently, attempting to speak with the victor, who had won £500 for herself and an audience member.
Cynthia, of course, believed he was talking to her and kept raising her head to the camera and saying her name.
‘It is chaos!’, Ant laughed.
‘Ok, Cynthia, if you could just move out the way, darling… Cynthia! Cynthia, darling,’ he kept saying, but poor Cynthia was baffled.
‘Not you! Not you! Not you!’, Dec said, struggling to hold back his laughter as they tried to get the attention of the woman behind, while Cynthia failed to remove herself from the spotlight.
After failing to determine the identity or door number of the real winner, the presenters were forced to move on.
Ant promised her that she would receive the prize money, but made it obvious that Cynthia would not.
Cynthia remained on the doorstep after the game had finished, standing and waiving at the camera.
It was truly comedic gold, and spectators were enthralled.
‘Think Cynthia was there by accident but that’s the funniest TV moment of the year’, one person tweeted.
‘Oh my god ring my bell is so chaotic’, another wrote.
‘Crying at Cynthia’, one viewer wrote, as others hailed her a ‘national treasure’.
‘Cynthia is a LEGEND!! Live TV is just brilliant!’, another chuckled.
‘GIVE CYNTHIA £500!!!!!!! NOW’, one individual demanded.
Well, it just goes to prove that anything can happen on live television!
Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway continues Saturday at 7pm on ITV and ITVX.
