Shetland fans were devastated to see Jimmy Perez (Douglas Henshall) bid farewell to his life as an officer in the Scottish island.
The Glasgow-born actor announced he was quitting the blockbuster BBC series in July after nearly a decade in the iconic role back in July.
The detective found himself investigating a bunch of grisly murders and crimes after moving to the remote isle to start a new life with his young daughter.
In the final episode of the seventh season, which aired on Wednesday, Perez managed to tie up loose ends by stopping an eco-terrorist attack by a protestor threatening to implode a homemade bomb.
Perez also arrested Alison Woods (Laurie Brett), who had killed to protect her lover, while also stopping American Lloyd Anderson (Patrick Robinson) from being handed the death penalty in his home country.
Fans flocked to Twitter to comment on the ending, with many heaping praise on the crime drama for being ‘very consistent in a world awash with crime dramas.’
‘Just watched the last ep of #Shetland Magnificent. I am in bits,’ a viewer wrote.

A Twitter account added: ‘Cheers #Perez. God I am in tears tonight after watching #Shetland! @djhenshall you have been terrific as #Perez, feel like I’ve lost a friend.’
A crime drama lover penned: ‘Just the right ending.#Shetland.’
Another said: ‘The end of an era. Pérez will be missed @djhenshall#Shetland.’

Meanwhile, Perez teased it would be Tosh (Alison O’Donnell) filling his boots, with the upset officer telling him: ‘I’m not sure I can do this without you.’
‘Tosh, you’re ready, trust me,’ Perez reassured his colleague.
Shetland is available to watch on BBC iPlayer and BritBox.
