The I’m A Celebrity… South Africa stars have been through Bushtucker Trials before, but can they do it again?
When the cast of the highly anticipated 2023 programme makes its highly anticipated all-stars premiere tonight on ITV, it looks that some may learn they’ve taken on a challenge that’s far more than they bargained for.
During the inaugural programme, the celebs will be divided into groups to complete horrifying challenges, one of which will include Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan, Olympic athlete Fatima Whitbread, and ex-England cricketer Phil Tufnell.
The trio must attempt Newton’s Cradle, which entails balancing on large, swinging red balls suspended far above the Savannah and attempting to connect them together so that they may be used as a bridge in order to earn food for camp.
Fatima, 62, is doing her hardest to cling onto the red balls in a new footage released ahead of the debut episode, as Phil, 56, and Helen, 32, watch from the ground below.
Helen doubles over, stating that she feels’sick’ as she sees Fatima labouring to finish the work.
Phil continues to yell in favour of Fatima while Helen looks on, a look of frustration and terror on her face.
So will the team manage to win stars and help feed camp?
Helen, who previously appeared on I’m A Celeb in 2012, stated, ‘I believe the public would probably remember me most for being an absolute wuss at the Trials…’ Looking back, I realise I was a bit of a drama queen…
‘I’m so determined to make my girls proud as well. I won’t be shouting I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’
‘I guess I was definitely better renowned for the cockroach incident,’ Fatima says of the moment a cockroach got lodged up her nose on the show in 2011. I tried to smell it out, but it wouldn’t come out. Approximately 40 minutes in total.’
It’s been two decades since Phil won the programme in 2003; will he be able to duplicate his triumph and become the first I’m A Celebrity ‘Legend’?
During the show, which will air on ITV later today, co-hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly will disclose to the campmates that they are in for a surprise.
The celebs will be able to see the surprise develop from their own vantage point, so it will be interesting to see if the twist will frighten them.
I’m A Celebrity… South Africa launches tonight at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
