Emma Bunton admits the Spice Girls have to be wary about telling Mel B about any top secret plans in case she spills the beans too soon.
The 46-year-old pop star has given a more cautious update on potential plans for a docu-series about the Wannabe hitmakers after Mel said they were working with the team behind Netflix’s The Last Dance documentary about basketball legend Michael Jordan.
Appearing on Monday’s episode of This Morning, Emma had a more cautious response and said: ‘There’s lots of things around that. It is in talks but nothing is definite just yet.’
When hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield asked if Scary Spice had got a bit overexcited, Emma laughed: ‘Of course, she always does! We have to say, “Melanie, don’t tell anyone!”
‘We have to make sure she’s away somewhere when we had those discussions. But I love it because she’s so excited about it, so we do love that part of Mel. But if we want anything to be kept secret, we don’t tell her.’
Mel definitely has a habit of blabbing a bit too soon, including last year when she insisted the iconic girl group – which also includes Mel C, Victoria Beckham and Geri Horner – were planning a reunion tour before Covid thwarted their plans.
‘They’re going to kill me for saying this. We’re hoping, especially me, if it has anything to do with me, which it will have because I’m the driving force and will make sure it happens, to tour in 2023,’ she previously said.
‘I’m always pushing to have a Spice Girls reunion and we were in talks last year but then Covid hit so it pushed everyone’s plans.’
And back in September, she was at it again telling fans to get ready for a new tour despite no official word from organisers, while Melanie Chisholm (Mel C) has played down rumours the Spice Girls may be gearing up to reunite at next year’s Glastonbury Festival.
Mel B tweeted: ‘To ALL our fans get ready for#spiceworld25 yippppeeee its here at long last!!!! Boom #girlpower #foryou #friendshipneverends #spicetour2023.’
On the subject of their 25th anniversary celebrations, Emma would love to get back on the road and she ‘hopes’ discussions can get underway, although she suggested there might be other ideas being thrown around.
‘Please, I’d love to do another tour and I hope we get round to talking about it,’ she said. ‘We were together the other day. We’re always getting together and talking about kids or we get together and talk about other projects that we could do.’
She added: ‘I think it’d be nice to do something. I don’t know that it’s going to be a tour, but there are things in the pipeline that we’d love tod o together again – all of us! So that’d be nice.’
Meanwhile, Emma is doing well at keeping her own secrets safe after teasing her husband Jade Jones’ appearance on his upcoming Christmas tour, as well as another potential special guest.
‘I know what Jade and I are going to do, i’m not going to tell you that one! But I do have a couple of guests – sometimes people go, “Ooh, are you in Manchester tonight?” And they might just join me,’ she said.
‘One of my “spicey girls” has said that she’s gonna come along – I don’t wanna tell you which one! I think it’s so nice if you can come along and have a few surprises there, like Christmas!’
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1.
