Ever since the release of Stranger Things season 4 volume 1 and 2 on Netflix, Eddie Munson – played by Joseph Quinn – has become one of the most beloved characters in the entire franchise.
In the second part of the season, the Hellfire Club leader performed the most metal concert in history when he shredded his electric guitar in the Upside Down, delivering a legendary rendition of Metallica’s iconic Master of Puppets.
Now, Joseph has lived out what would likely be Eddie’s ultimate rock fantasy in the real world, jamming with Metallica at Lollapalooza.
After what happened to Eddie with the Demobats… our hearts honestly can’t take epic collaboration.
In a video shared by Netflix, Joseph, 29, revealed he was at the Chicago music festival to meet Metallica, who first formed in 1981 and released Master of Puppets, from their third studio album of the same name, five years later.
The band’s co-founder James Hetfield remarked to the actor that he was ‘taller than on TV’, while also sharing that he’s been a fan of Stranger Things since season one.
‘I’m a big fan of it. Have been since season one. My kids and I, it’s been a bonding experience for us,’ he revealed, as the father of three kids.
‘Thank you so much for letting us use the track,’ Joseph said while sitting down casually with the group, as James added while pointing at their guest: ‘Thanks for doing it justice by the way. You definitely did.’
‘It’s all I was listening to for two years. I feel very connected to you guys,’ the actor replied.
Then, Joseph received the invitation any Metallica fan would dream to hear – as he was invited to jam with the acclaimed musicians.
While the Eddie star claimed that was a bit ‘rusty’ and so ‘might need a lesson’, this proved far from the truth as drummer Lars Ulrich gave him a count of fire before they launched straight into the spine-tingling tune.
After strumming his guitar side-by-side with James, Joseph’s jaw dropped to the floor with excitement, as Lars said directly to the camera: ‘We’d like to make an announcement. Metallica is now a five-piece.’
As if the moment couldn’t get any more special, they then presented Joseph with an unbelievable gift – an electric guitar just like the one Eddie has, which they offered to sign ‘and f**k up’ for the actor.
The Brit bowed down as he held his arms out to accept the incredible present… just as Stranger Things fans have been bowing down to him ever since we welcomed Eddie into our lives.
During the Metallica concert at Lollapalooza, footage of Eddie in Stranger Things was shown as the band brought the house down with Master of Puppets.
Fans couldn’t take the soul-stirring exchange between Joseph and Metallica, with one tweeting: ‘I am so happy for Joe Quinn right now,’ as another wrote: ‘Joe’s excitement asking Metallica if they wouldn’t mind signing the guitar I need 2-4 business days to recover from this.’
An overjoyed fan wrote: ‘This will go down as the greatest day of my life,’ while someone else added: ‘This made me so happy I’m honestly tearing up.’
