The rivalry on Strictly Come Dancing is heating up, and we might see fan favourites Johannes Radebe and Annabel Croft slide away as the 2023 season begins.
Last week’s show had the couple doing a dance that was more than simply steps to Annabel. The 57-year-old tennis star lost her late husband Mel Coleman to cancer in May of this year, when he was just 60 years old, and she decided to devote her recent performance to him.
There was scarcely a dry eye in the house after the magnificent Couple’s Choice to Wings by Birdy, and Annabel and Johannes, 36, got a really remarkable score of 35.
It’s a new week, and she’s been assigned to do the Samba to Shakira’s Whenever, Wherever.
Despite their rise to third place on the scoreboard, body language expert Darren Stanton, speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, believes they may depart the game this weekend.
‘I believe Annabel Croft will be at most risk of leaving this week,’ he stated.
Darren claimed to have seen symptoms of ‘cracks’ emerging.
‘Cracks were beginning to show in her dance with Johannes. I could see her flashing signs of frustration and nervousness.’
Although Darren acknowledges that the sentiment behind the dance could be the reason, he is seeing ‘signs of Annabel struggling and she could be in trouble.’
He continued: ‘This week will be important for her and Johannes. It could go one of two ways and it’s a make-or-break situation.
‘I could see that she was finding it hard to concentrate in her last routine, as her eye contact wasn’t as strong, and their movements weren’t as in sync.
‘She will need to show she has what it takes to go further, but I fear it won’t be possible.’
The dance style could be another thing working against her as research by William Hill Vegas found that the Samba is most likely to have you leaving behind Elstree Studio for good.
Over the last six series, it has led to a remarkable 21.3% of eliminations.
Les Dennis and Nancy Xu were the first to depart when their nautical-themed routine failed to impress, then Eddie Kadi and Karen Hauer samba rolled straight off the dancefloor in week five.
Krishnan Guru-Murthy and Lauren Oakley will also have to learn voltas and samba rolls to compete in the Brazilian style.
Despite the fact that neither Krishnan nor Annabel have yet had to participate in dance-offs, betting odds indicate that they are the most likely to go – the Samba curse is brutal!
Annabel is presently the 10/11 favourite to leave the competition on Sunday, while Krishnan is the 10/11 favourite to become the seventh competitor to leave the programme.
Angela Rippon and her professional partner Kai Widdrington, who were in the bottom two on Sunday’s results show, are only behind them at 7/2.
She out-danced Adam Thomas, who was voted out by the judges – Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke, and Shirley Ballas – with his partner Luba Mushtuk.
However, not all viewers agreed with the outcome, and some called it “favouritism.”
