Carlos Gu of Strictly Come Dancing has explained why he fell into tears following last week’s live performance.
The professional dancer, 30, is coupled with TV presenter Angela Scanlon, 39, and the duo finished Saturday’s Blackpool special with 38 points, one point ahead of Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin and Ellie Leach and Vito Coppola.
Carlos was overcome with emotion and joy as he spoke with Claudia Winkleman about their fantastic performance.
‘She’d been down for a few weeks, and hearing that, I’m just incredibly delighted,’ he added at the time, adding the tears were joyful ones.
During an appearance on It Takes Two with Janette Manrara, Carlos spoke on how he was feeling at the time.
He said: ‘It was just unexpected, the comments, and the scores.’
He went on to claim that ‘what gets him the most’ is the judges finally realising what he can accomplish in Angela, a mother of two.
‘I was so relieved and proud.’
Talking about Carlos’ reaction, Angela added: ‘It was a very special moment, we’ve got a really special bond and it was very emotional for both of us.
‘I don’t show my emotions as well as Carlos, it was a moment I won’t forget.’
The duo then joked about how’special’ their friendship is, with Angela even giggling about how she painted Carlos’ nails behind the scenes.
This comes after Carlos was observed crying following rehearsals for this week’s live show.
Carlos sat behind Angela in the back of a cab in London, his face hidden beneath his pink sweatshirt.
Angela has shared open updates on social media during rehearsals, including how she treated her blisters feet with bleach!
Earlier in the season, Angela was embroiled in controversy after a video showing her hanging out of a car window and dancing while the vehicle moved was reported to police, prompting her to apologise for the ‘very hazardous’ act.
Angela and Carlos have managed to avoid a new ‘curse’ – the dreaded Samba – and have survived the competition, becoming one of the six surviving couples who will return to the ballroom on Saturday.
Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 7.30pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
