Amy Dowden of Strictly Come Dancing was inundated with compliments from fans after showing off her newly shaven head in a joyful social media post.
The 33-year-old professional dancer disclosed earlier this year that she had stage 3 breast cancer.
She’s subsequently had a single mastectomy and is now undergoing chemotherapy after doctors discovered new tumours, but she’s remained upbeat as she’s recounted her health experience online.
The actress cut her remaining locks on Thursday after suffering from hair loss as a result of her tough treatment.
Amy has offered a great, positive spin on her new appearance after first sharing emotional footage of bidding goodbye to her hair, surrounded by her loved ones.
The dancer released a charming video on Instagram showing herself leading her family in a lively little routine before shaving her head, then walking to the camera and removing her baseball cap for a smooth transition.
Amy then swirled back onto the screen, revealing her shaved head while posing with a large beam with her family cheering in the backdrop.
‘When @diannebuswell sends you reel ideas!’ she wrote in the caption, referring to her Strictly bestie and fellow pro dancer.
‘Fair play dad @richard_dowden you steal the show here with your performance and energy #showman! This brought so much fun to the day! As dancing always does 🙏🎀💖,’ she added.
While the performer’s admirers praised the footage in her remarks, it appears that some were particularly impressed with her father Richard’s actions.
‘Yessssssss 🥰🥰💗💗💗💗💗 look at you all 👏👏,’ commented Dianne in delight, before adding: ‘@richard_dowden it’s a 10 from me ❤️’
‘Oh your Dad!!!! I love him. He gives me Jeremy Vine vibes 😂,’ replied one follower, referencing the broadcaster, who was an enthusiastic competitor on Strictly back in 2015.
‘Sorry Amy, I know I should have been watching you, but your Dad is a legend. Well done sweetheart,’ added another pal.
Her Strictly co-stars were also all in the comments too, with Vito Coppola leaving a heart emoji, and Carlos Gu gushing: ‘😍😍😍 what gangs , looks amazing x’
Former contender Helen Skelton also congratulated Amy with a strong of raised hand emoji, while others referred to her as a “truly inspiring legend.”
While Amy’s disease has prevented her from fully participating in Strictly this year, the door has been left open for her to return as soon as she feels well enough.
Fans were also delighted to see Amy in the title sequence of Saturday’s first competitive programme, as she appeared among other pros who did not have a partner this time.
She was also referenced in the launch show the previous weekend with presenter Tess Daly calling her ‘our Welsh dragon’.
CO-host Claudia Winkleman added: ‘Amy, from your entire Strictly family we are sending all our love and we can’t wait to have you back on the dancefloor.’
Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 6:20pm on BBC One.
