Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver didn’t plan on sharing her emotional adoption on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
The soap actress became the third celebrity to be eliminated from the ITV reality show on Monday night, following in the footsteps of Loose Women star Charlene White and TV presenter Scarlette Douglas.
During her stint in camp, Sue revealed she was adopted and met her mother for the first time following a chance encounter with her husband at an audition.
She had told her co-stars: ‘It was when I was at drama school, I was about 22/24 and Royal Exchange was looking for little tiny parts for Oedipus.’
Sue added that when she entered the room, an actor said: ‘Oh my god, she’s the absolute double of my wife when I met her.’
He then asked the actress for her date of birth and after Sue shared her personal details, he rang his wife and he said: ‘I’ve found her.’
In her first interview since departing the Australian camp, Sue told Good Morning Britain presenters Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid that she felt comfortable opening up about her past.
She said: ‘I have been quite private, I have never spoken about that out of respect for everyone, but I felt so comfortable in there with those people and Emma and Kate, my brother and my mum said ‘say whatever you feel, what you’re happy to feel’, so I did.’
The soap star, who has played Eileen Grimshaw on the cobbles since 2000, also gave some insight to what it was like being on the show.
‘You are literally looking at the sun and trying to figure out what time of day it is and where the sun is in the sky, you’ve lost all track of time, you’re sleep deprived, you don’t know what time you’re going to bed, you don’t know what time you’re getting up, so it’s very disorientating and I don’t think you realise that when you watch the show,’ she said.
‘I mean, I’ve watched the show from the beginning, I’ve been the best armchair critic there could be but until you’re actually in there it’s hard, it’s a really hard slog.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
