It’s been a little over a year since series 2 of hit Apple TV Plus show Ted Lasso came out, but fans may be waiting a little while for the next installment.
The sports comedy-drama – starring Jason Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Nick Mohammed, Hannah Waddingham, and Juno Temple – was a dominant name at the 2022 74th Primetime Emmy Awards for the second year in a row with multiple nominations and award wins.
And now, many are wondering when the show will return with its third series.
However, it has been reported the upcoming series has been delayed, with Sudeikis allegedly holding up production
According to Puck, the star, 47, wants ‘everything to be perfect’ with the show, with this series marking the first that he is fully in charge of the show alongside co-creators Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly.
The report says, according to multiple sources, Sudeikis made the call that there were scripts that needed a ‘significant rewrite,’ which meant filming began in March.
Filming for the latest series is set to wrap in November following additional, unspecified delays and location shoots outside of London.
A release date for series 3 has not been confirmed, but it has been speculated it will air in winter this year or spring 2023.
Speaking about the show in his Emmy Award acceptance speech as Ted Lasso received the accolade for Outstanding Comedy Series, Sudeikis said the third series would arrive ‘at some point.’
The third series of the show could well be its final, with Goldstein telling The Times it is being written as if it’s the end.
Waddingham has also spoken about the series finishing, saying Sudeikis has explained there is a clear beginning, middle, and end to the story.
