Tituss Burgess, Teletubbies’ new narrator, has provided a glimpse into the colourful animals after meeting them in person.
The long-running children’s television show relaunched last October with a completely new tone after the American actor was hired to give voice to the Teletubbies and their exploits.
Many people recognise the famous quartet of Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa, and Po, but Tituss, 44, wasn’t quite old enough to have grown up with them and had never seen the programme.
The actor, best known for his part in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, revealed more about his casting in an exclusive chat with Metro.co.uk.
‘It would imply I had a lot of prior knowledge about the Teletubbies or had even watched it,’ he admitted when asked just how he had got involved.
‘I’ve not had the experience that others have had consuming it,’ he added.
‘I knew nothing about Teletubbies until I got that job and went at watched it and was even further confused.’

Tituss, on the other hand, added that he had grown to like the characters with TVs on their bellies.
‘I’ve joined the family and have a lot of affection for the Teletubbies and how they travel around in the world and the purpose they perform,’ he said.
‘They are adorable and odd little beings, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.
‘I had a great time describing it,’ she says.
When questioned about meeting the characters, he verified that they had spent some time together, noting that their size was what shocked them the most about seeing them in person.
‘They are bigger than you think you are,’ he shared.
Tituss is about to begin the second season of Schmigadoon, a programme that gives homage to some of the most well-known stage productions. He has previously appeared in Broadway musicals such as Good Vibrations, Jersey Boys, Guys and Dolls, and The Little Mermaid.
Melissa (Cecily Strong) and Josh (Keegan-Michael Key) are two New York physicians who end up in the mythical village of Schmigadoon, which is stuck in a Golden Age-style musical and only permits them to escape after discovering true love.
In season 2, the couple attempts to return to town but instead stumbles upon Schmicago, a much darker metropolis that pays sarcastic tribute to sexy, dark 1960s and 1970s plays.
Tituss serves as Narrator this season, in part as a spoof of The Leading Player from Pippin.
Teletubbies is streaming on Netflix.
Schmigadoon season 2 is streaming from Wednesday on Apple TV Plus.
