Since the show’s inception in 2010, it has perplexed – and outraged – Great British Bake Off viewers.
And, for the first time on the Channel 4 broadcast, the missing raspberry from the cake mentioned in the title credits has been addressed and its whereabouts disclosed.
On the first episode of the new season of GBBO, which aired on Tuesday (September 26) evening, new host Alison Hammond said that the technical challenge was inspired by the ‘gingham-clad mystery.’
The bakers were challenged to recreate the ‘most iconic’ Bake Off cake with Alison, 48, explaining it was the delicious dessert with the ‘famous missing raspberry.’
‘Whatever happened to that raspberry?’ she teased.
Her co-host Noel Fielding, 50, then brought out a gilded box and yanked it open, revealing the missing fruit that had ‘annoyed’ fans for years.
In light of the situation, the Mighty Boosh star joked that the fruit was his “pension,” which he planned to sell on eBay.
There was a collective sigh of relief from viewers on social media when the berry’s location was unveiled, with one commenting: ‘The missing raspberry being added to the cake just feels right.’
‘I finally feel at peace watching the bakers fill in the missing raspberry,’ another added, while a third penned emotionally: ‘The way they’re replicating the missing raspberry I’m in tears.’

Many, though, had no idea what all the hoopla was about, saying they were unaware of the continuing controversy.
‘Absolutely did not notice there was a raspberry missing at any point in the last 14 years,’ as one viewer put it.
Aside from the raspberries, Bake Off’s return episode left some viewers devastated following the first elimination.
Despite finishing second in the technical, deli and supermarket manager Amos was the first contender to be booted after his performance in the showstopper.
‘Absolute scandal on the bake off, not Amos,’ one angry viewer fumed.
‘Not sure Amos deserved that tbh,’ another said, while several others echoed: ‘Justice for Amos.’
Great British Bake Off continues on Channel 4 on Tuesday at 8pm.
