The third episode of The Idol, starring Lily-Rose Depp and The Weeknd, aired on Sunday, and the outcry against Sam Levinson’s programme shows no signs of abating.
The series, billed as “the sleaziest love tale in all of Hollywood,” has delivered several sensational scenes including choking, masturbation, and body fluids.
However, a joke about Jeffrey Epstein in episode three shocked viewers, with one calling it “one of the most vile things I’ve ever heard.”
Epstein was imprisoned in the Metropolitan Correctional Centre (MCC) in Manhattan after being arrested on federal sex trafficking accusations in July 2019.
Epstein was discovered dead in his cell on the morning of August 10, 2019, following an apparent suicide.
During last night’s episode, character Andrew Finkelstein – played by Eli Roth – jokes that popstar Jocelyn (Depp) is giving him IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), adding: ‘I’m f*****g s******g more blood than a kid at Epstein’s island.’

Dozens of women claimed being raped and mistreated on Epstein’s private Caribbean island.
He paid $7.95 million for the island of Little St James in 1998 and erected a magnificent house on the 70-acre island, which he used to trade and abuse teenage females and entertain affluent and influential people.
Social media users were quick to express their outrage over the Epstein joke, with one person writing: ‘Okay, the Epstein’s Island comment was too far for me in the new episode of The Idol. Let’s not joke about child trafficking.’
Another person tweeted: ‘Sam Levinson on The Idol making a joke about kids in Epstein Island. What the actual f**k is wrong with you? It’s f*****g disgusting that someone thought “this might be a good joke”.’
Someone else said: ‘The Epstein line is one of the most disgusting things I’ve ever heard.’
Other comments included: ‘That Epstein line in The Idol is sickening’ and ‘Really tried to give The Idol a chance but ep 3 really ruined it for me w that Epstein Island joke.’
