The cast of The Traitors made a few requests of show executives ahead of the highly anticipated second season, and they didn’t hold back.
Meryl Williams and Faithfuls Aaron Evans and Hannah Byczkowski won the £101,050 cash prize on the BBC game show last year after expelling the ultimate Traitor Wilfred Webster.
The BBC announced the renewal of the TV programme after the first episode received an amazing 34 million views on BBC iPlayer, making it the broadcaster’s greatest new launch in the previous couple of years.
Claudia Winkleman, the show’s host, suggested that she already has some unique outfits planned for the competition’s return, saying, ‘I can’t wait to go back to the castle to watch people play the greatest game on television. I’m knitting a high funnel sweater immediately.’
With the new series on the horizon, Meryl, Hannah, and Wilfred represented the programme at this year’s National Television Awards and revealed the show’s secret formula for success.
‘I think it has to maintain its heart,’ said Hannah.
‘I think that’s why ours was so successful was because we were emotional, we were in it altogether and we made friends for life and it wasn’t just a game.’
Wilfred added: ‘I feel like the authenticity was just “go and do it” and we just made our own pacts, made our own relationships so if they stick to that formula then you can’t go wrong right?’
Meryl, who has achondroplasia, also underlined the need of including typical individuals in the series.

‘The show is so diverse, they definitely casted diversity in us. We had non disability, visible disability, different ranges. We had everyone.’
Strictly host Claudia will of course be returning as host, confirming the news in a statement: ‘I can’t wait to go back to the castle to watch people play the greatest game on television.’
The American version of the show debuted recently, with Alan Cumming presenting, and it has already been renewed for a second season.
The Traitors is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
