Season two of The Traitors is on the way, and the largest teaser thus far, starring Claudia Winkleman, was released before BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.
On Saturday’s broadcast, just before the celebs walked to the dance floor for the Halloween special, a small footage of Claudia dressed in an oversized hooded cloak with two mysterious characters standing behind her in the same garb that has become iconic with the series was seen.
In the blink-and-you’ll-miss-it preview, The Traitors and Strictly host Claudia looked directly down at the camera. As the 51-year-old brought one finger to her lips, she said: ‘Shhhhh.’
The words: ‘The Traitors. Coming soon’ flashed up on the screen.
That wasn’t the only easter egg – a veiled person could also be spotted standing alongside Claudia at various times throughout the official Strictly show.
The trailer and the presence of the cloaked figure sparked much excitement among the show’s many fans – the Bafta-winning first series had an average audience of 5.4 million, accumulated an incredible 34 million views on BBC iPlayer, and became the broadcaster’s biggest new launch in the last couple of years.
22 strangers move inside a castle in the Scottish Highlands for the immensely compelling reality programme. They participate in daily tasks to build up the cash pool, but there is one major catch: there are three Traitors among the Faithfuls.
At the evening roundtable, the group chooses who to remove one by one, while the traitors determine who to send home during a covert meeting with Claudia. If the Faithfuls do not kill the Traitors before the final, they will steal all of the money.
Meryl Williams and Faithfuls Aaron Evans and Hannah Byczkowski won the £101,050 grand prize after expelling the ultimate Traitor Wilfred Webster in the dramatic premiere series.
The show, based on the Dutch series De Verraders, also has a US version, which debuted recently with Alan Cumming as presenter, and has already been renewed for a second season.
A few observant viewers resorted to social media to express their delight at the prospect of a new season.
‘Used to be you knew it was coming up to Christmas when the Coca-Cola ad started playing, now it’s when you see this on BBC One,’ wrote one fan alongside a still from the trailer.

We may have watched Ellie Leach and Vito Cappola, as well as Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin, go closer to a perfect score of 40, but the caped figure was the episode’s star for one fan.
They wrote: ‘A traitor in the claudotorium was my highlight tonight, I can’t wait for #thetraitors to be back #strictly.’
‘OBSESSED WITH THE TRAITOR/STRICTLY CROSSOVER,’ shouted another view. ‘So excited for a new series of @TheTraitorsUK – hopefully we don’t have to wait too long!’
‘Get it in my eyes @BBCOne! #TheTraitors @ClaudiaWinkle,’ demanded another fan.
The Traitors is coming soon to BBC. Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday and Sunday on BBC One and iPlayer.
