Original Ivan Brett, star of BBC One’s The Traitors, has revealed a’shocking’ revelation about the reality programme.
The author, who was expelled after being falsely suspected of being a traitor, spilled the beans on the ostensibly extravagant breakfast feasts that appear in both seasons and was also the setting for one of the show’s most heated confrontations.
While the 22 candidates appear to be given to a slap-up dinner, which appears to contain pastries, eggs, toast, and marmalade, providing a little reprieve from the skullduggery overseen by host Claudia Winkleman, the cuisine is supposedly naff.
Ivan shared on X: ‘I’m sorry guys, it’s time to come clean and leak something shocking about #TheTraitors. It pains me to tell you, but that breakfast is REALLY DRY AND NOT VERY NICE.’
Perhaps the bad food contributed to one of the most dramatic incidents of season one, which former participant Alex Grey subsequently characterised as “one of the worst days of my life.”
Alex and her lover Tom Elderfield had kept their relationship a secret from the rest of the group until breakfast time, when they decided to come clean.
What was the reaction? The couple were accused of lying, and their co-star Matt Harris fell into tears when he saw the incident.
The first episode of The Traitors season 2, which broadcast last night on BBC One, already ruffled feathers at the breakfast feast.

While chewing into a piece of toast, volunteer business mentor Sonja, 66, playfully but rightly questioned events coordinator Ash, 45, if she was a Traitor, eliciting a very nervous non-answer.

This year’s Faithfuls and Traitors lineup includes British Army engineer Harry, 22, who is dating a CBBC presenter, chess tutor Anthony, 45, and Tracey, 58, a sonographer and clairvoyant.
However, it is retired teacher Diane who has captivated viewers’ attention, with Rylan Clark even jumping in and posting on X: ‘I’ve never been more frightened of her discovering my secret, and I’m not even a traitor on the show.’
X user Amy Mallett added: ‘Love that the internet has already awarded Diane certified hun status after just one episode of the traitors S2.’

Diane, perhaps, will fair better than Ivan on The Traitors, who had his time cut short despite making one of the most legendary parting speeches of all time, according to fans.
He completely destroyed magician Tom, who had been the most vociferous suspect of Ivan, convincing some of the other individuals staying at the castle that Ivan was a Traitor and should be sent off the show.
‘No hard feelings. I came here to play a game, and today that’s exactly what I got. This was fun. Tom – this was your big flourish, and here’s the prestige. That was not my card. I’m a Faithful,’ Ivan said, as Tom held his head in his hands in despair at his error.
The Traitors continues on Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
